This church is situated on the southern approach to Ashdown Forest in the Weald of Sussex. This area was previously part of the Maresfield parish until this church was built in 1881.

From the 1882 Kelly's directory:
"Christ Church, Ashdown Forest, was consecrated by the Bishop of Chichester on the 23rd November, 1881, and is a plain, simple building of local stone in the Early English style, and consists of chancel, nave, vestry and a rustic south porch : the roof, of open timber and plaster, is supported by several arches of stout timber, resting on stone buttresses : the pulpit is of carved stone, inlaid with marble, and there is a brass lectern, given by Miss Butler : the font is a massive basin of Caen stone on marble shafts ; this, with the pulpit, was the gift of Mrs. Nesbitt, who has also presented an harmonium, brass corona and an altar cloth, excellent both in design and workmanship: the church will seat 220 persons, including three choir stalls on either side of the chancel. Rohde Hawkins esq. of the Council Office, Whitehall, was the architect."
