St Agnes was built in 1913 in the Perpendicular style as a daughter church to St Barnabas, Sackville Road in the Perpendicular style. It was designed by A G Humphrey, and the sloping site on Newtown Road allowed the construction of an under croft forming a church hall. It was closed in 1977, and the interior stripped.

Used for a time as a gymnasium and training centre for the Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club, this building is now the home of Brighton and Hove Gymnastic Club.
