This church in the village made famous by Mad Jack Fuller, has the unique characteristic that it has a pyramid in the churchyard. The pyramid was build by Mad Jack as a mausoleum where his remains were interred on his death.
The earliest parts of Brightling church are 13th century, chiefly the tower and the nave. Bother were remodelled in the 14th century, when a north aisle was added and the chancel rebuilt.
Some of the windows date from the 14th century alterations, others from the 15th century. The porch dates from 1749.
Here is a view taken from the nave looking through into the chancel.
There are two organs in this church. The one on the left is the nationally important barrel organ given to the church by John Fuller which is installed on the 18th century gallery at the west end of the nave. The second is a more conventional instrument used for the day to day services, on the left.
